All Over

The Wolverines season ended in disappointment. The team however was ALOT better than their record showed. Graduating a total of six seniors the returning team is looking forward to next year and hoping that they are able to get good weather for next season. As for me I am going to work on my pitching over the summer and hopefully get some lessons.I hope you enjoyed the short segment of Truckee High School Varsity Softball Team.

The Season Comes To An End

The Truckee softball team lost the second game of their best-of-three playoff series at Spring Creek by the score of 7-3 on Saturday. The Wolverines end their season at 3-17 in league and 7-20 overall. In Saturday's game, the Spartans took a 1-0 lead in the first, then Truckee came back to tie the game in the second when Heather Fisher doubled to left-center, and was driven in by Krysta Murphy's double. The teams held the tie until the bottom of the fourth, when Spring Creek plated six runs on two hits, three free passes and two Wolverine errors to take a 7-1 lead. The top of the fifth didn't start out so well for Truckee either, as Ashley McKechnie was ejected from the game for arguing a third-strike call. But an inspired Wolverine bench got two runs back in the inning when Natalya Jones hit a single and eventually scored on a past ball and Amber Davy walked and was driven in by Miranda Baker. It would not be enough, though, as the Spartans held on to the 7-3 victory.

Wolverines Fell Short In Playoff Loss

The Truckee varsity softball team dropped game one of their best-of-three game series at Spring Creek on Friday, 4-0.Entering the Northern 3A regional tournament as the sixth seed, the Wolverine bats just couldn't catch up to Spartan pitcher Jordan Garcia, as they were limited to just three hits while striking out 14 times.Truckee pitcher Rachel Zissimos threw a great game herself, going six innings, allowing four runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out seven. But Spring Creek hitters did just enough to win, scoring two runs in the third, and two more in the fifth to take the win.Truckee third-baseman Krysta Murphy led the Wolverines at the plate, going 2 for 2. Zissimos added the Wolverines' third hit.Truckee plays the Spartans again on Saturday a win-or-go-home situation. The Wolverines must win both games on Saturday in order to advance to the state championship tournament next weekend.

Extra Inning Upset

The Truckee High varsity softball team dropped all three games against league foe Fernley High School on Friday and Saturday, by scores of 6-2, 5-3 and 10-4, dropping the Wolverines to 3-15 in league on the season.Saturday's first game of the double-header was a hard-fought, nine-inning affair that both teams wanted to win.Fernley took the initial lead in the first with a run. In the second, Truckee's Heather Fisher hit a triple to left, and scored a few pitches later on a passed ball.In the third, Amber Davy singled to center and scored on a Kaycie Jones hit and a Vaquero error, as the Wolverines took a 2-1 lead. Fernley tied the score at two in the fifth and took a one-run lead in the top of the seventh.A key play to keep the Vaqueros from extending their lead was a Truckee 9-5-6 double play. Right fielder Ashley McKechnie caught a fly-out and threw to third to make a play on the Vaquero runner coming from third. After the runner slid in safely, the Truckee coaching staff alertly instructed third-baseman Krysta Murphy to throw back to second and appeal that the runner left early. After a dramatic delay, the umpire called the runner out.Down 3-2 in the bottom of the seventh, Natalya Jones singled to right and scored after singles by Kaycie Jones and Rachel Zissimos to tie the game and force extra innings. After a scoreless eighth, Fernley scored two runs in the ninth on a 2-RBI double to earn the 5-3 victory.Heather Fisher led Truckee at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a triple and a run scored. Amber Davy and Kaycie Jones also had two hits, while Natalya Jones, Rachel Zissimos, Ashley McKechnie and Krysta Murphy each had one.Zissimos threw all nine innings, allowing five runs on eleven hits and two walks while striking out three.Game two saw Fernley take a 4-1 lead after two and never look back in their 10-4 victory. Zissimos lead Truckee at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a double. Kelsi Decker was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, and Jessie Jensen reached base all three times with a single and two walks. Tracy Pearson, Amber Davy and Kaycie Jones each added a double. The Wolverines end the regular season with a 3-15 league record, which is one game ahead of Sparks in the win column for the sixth and final playoff spot. As of press time, Sparks had seven league games to be played and recorded, as they finish their regular season next weekend. One win would likely put the Railroaders in the playoffs, as they took the season series with the Wolverines 2-1.

Hard Loss

The Wolverines next opponent was Lowry High Buckaroos. They traveled to Winnumucca and unfortunately their first game got rained out. The next day they were scheduled to play a double header. The Truckee varsity softball team dropped both ends of its doubleheader at Lowry on Friday by scores of 12-5 and 13-12. The Wolverines also lost to the Buckaroos Monday, 11-6, and are now 3-12 in Northern 3A league play. Game 2 turned into a slugfest between the league foes. Down 6-2 entering the fourth, singles by Baker and Heather Fisher set the table for Pearson, who sent a two-RBI single to left to draw the Wolverines to within two. Then, with a runner on, Amber Davy drove a two-run home run over the right-field fence to tie the game at six. Kaycie Jones put Truckee up by one after hitting a double and scoring on a Natalya Jones single.Lowry came back with four of their own in the bottom of the fourth, as both teams continued to pound the ball and plate runs.Down by one, 12-11, entering the last inning, Kaycie Jones wasted no time assuring Lowry would have to bat in their half of the frame, as she sent a solo home run to left field to tie up the game. But the Buckaroos would not let up on the Wolverines, scoring the only run they needed in the seventh on two hits and an error to take the 13-12 victory.

Maby Next Time

The Truckee High Softball team's next opponent was the Dayton High Dustdevils. The wolverines were hoping to extend their win loss record with three more wins. The first game was in Dayton and it was blistering cold, the Wolverines however fell short and lost. Although they lost the first game they still had hope. The following weekend they had a double header against Dayton and they split, losing the first game 8-4 and coming back the second game winning 15-8. Truckee outfielder Ashley McKechnie was 5 for 7 on the day with four RBI's. The Wolverines were looking forward to their upcoming opponents and in hope of improving their record.
